NVR San Francisco Openweight Championship HistoryA recent addition to the NVR Wrestling brand, the San Francisco Openweight Championship came about when A.J. Morales yoinked the SFW Championship and refused to let the title die with the memory of San Francisco Wrestling. He tried numerous times to to combine it with the NVR World Championship, however the owners of SFW and of NVR Wrestling couldn't come to an agreement, so the merger did not happen. However, A.J. Morales was given official ownership of the title by San Francisco Wrestling, and decided to melt it down, create his own plates, and get it sanctioned as an official, free-roaming championship. A.J. Morales decided he would only defend it on NVR shows, and eventually, Caleb Jackson was able to work through some legal gray-areas, so that way he could finally take ownership of Morales' passion project. Then A.J. lost it 25 minutes later, but THAT'S OKAY WE STILL LOVE HIM!!! Anyways, this title is to showcase the different styles of newer wrestlers who are looking for a foothold in the company. Though it is the spiritual successor to a World Championship, NVR Wrestling views it as an opportunity to renew, rebirth, and/or restart the champion's career in NVR. This does not make it any less presitigous than the other titles, and if anything, marks the first true step towards other titles for many wrestlers who may be struggling to find their way in the other divisions. This title is open to anyone, and does not require a #1 contender for the championship, though there may still be matches to determine who the next challenger may be.
